Historical Complex
This ticket allows you to discover the symbol of Milan by offering access several areas of the Historical Complex: the Cathedral, the Rooftops on foot (251 steps), the Archeological Area, the Duomo Museum, and the Church of San Gottardo in Corte. The Duomo, one of the largest Cathedrals in Italy and Europe, represents a cultural heritage for the entire Milanese community.
Duomo’s Terraces, made from Candoglia marble, have a surface area of around 8,000 square metres and offer a panorama of the city from 50m high, giving an unprecedented view of the architecture of the Church and the panorama of the entire city.
Archaeological Area opens the visit to the early Christian baptistery of San Giovanni alle Fonti and the remains of the ancient Basilica of Santa Tecla, both from the 4th century AD.
Finally, in the Duomo Museum and the Church of San Gottardo in Corte, tapestries and sculptures, as well as precious liturgical objects, are housed.
Pinacoteca Ambrosiana
The Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, founded in 1618 by Cardinal Federico Borromeo, has 24 rooms that follow a chronological path that begins with the collection of Cardinal Federico, up to the beginning of the twentieth century. Inside there are more than 1,500 works including paintings by Leonardo da Vinci (Portrait of a musician), Bramantino, Ambrogio Bergognone, Bernardino Luini, Tiziano, Jacopo Bassano, Moretto, Savoldo, Giovanni Paolo Lomazzo, Jan Brueghel the Elder, Cerano, Morazzone, Daniele Crespi, Anton Raffaello Mengs, Andrea Appiani. You can admire works by Raphael including the drawings of the fresco “The School of Athens”, by Caravaggio with “Basket of fruit”; by Botticelli with “Madonna with Child and three Angels” and many others.
Located right next to the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana is the Crypt of St Sepolcro in Milan. Immersed in silent darkness for over fifty years, the Crypt finally reopened a few years ago: yet another jewel of underground Milan.
